Highlights from our trip to SXSW EDU 2023

Our team had an incredible few days of learning, connecting with education leaders, and designing what’s possible for the future of schools and learning. Here are a few highlights.

Beyond School: Designing Education Infrastructure

We kicked off the week with our panel Beyond School: Designing Education Infrastructure. Laura McBain, K12 Lab Director of Community and Implementation at the Stanford d.School moderated the conversation, with philanthropic leaders Katy Knight (our Executive Director and President at Siegel), Frances Messano (CEO of NewSchools Venture Fund), and Allison Scott (CEO of Kapor Foundation) presenting to a full house. Futures Cantina

Our interactive Futures Cantina Lounge was open Monday through Wednesday, featuring Drop in Immersive Stations with Web3, ChatGPT and Glyph Printing as well as guided workshops hosted by leading futurists. We were thrilled to have hundreds of attendees come through to play around with new and old technologies, and connect with one another about how they might use them to bring about different shared futures.

The Cantina was a bright spot of the conference – so much so that word of it trickled up Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, who dropped in during our celebration to share some inspiring remarks, which you can watch on Twitter.

Partnership with the Stanford d.School

We’re immensely grateful to our friends and partners at the Stanford d.School, who summoned their impressive network to activate this space and make it one of the most memorable experiences at the conference.
